Abstract

As aircraft assembly site is a large-size metallic environment, where the identifiable range of the RFID tags will be greatly reduced by the electromagnetic shield, the RFID devices layout is a key problem to apply RFID technology in aircraft assembly process monitoring (AAMS). In this paper, an RFID layout approach for AAMS is proposed. The approach use RSSI solved by the log-distance path loss model as signal propagation quality evaluation parameter. With a parameterized representation method of the shielding structures in aircraft assembly site, the approach can calculated the feasible monitoring region of RFID tags and the layout scheme of RFID readers. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of this approach. The Result showed that the obtained RFID layout scheme meets the monitoring requirement in aircraft assembly process.
