Evaluation of Coastal Land Use and Development in Northern Taiwan

Abstract

This study was intended to establish coastal environment GIS database and construct a land use and development potential evaluation model by investigating deep into current land use along the coastal zones of northern Taiwan and social economic conditions. Expert questionnaires were introduced to determine the weight of each indicator developed. The model proposed was used for the analysis on the development opportunities and potentials of land use. Finally, the potentials of land use and development locations were obtained. As the result of this study, the integrated information of development potentials and space for land use in coastal zones was acquired and suggestions proposed for location development potentials. The result may be helpful to the planning for future land use of Taiwan’s coasts and the integrated management and conservation of environmental information.
