Studies of Verbal Humor from the Cross-Cultural Perspective
Abstract
The present paper begins with the definitions of humor, followed by an introduction to Berger’s typology of humor. It then reviews the previous empirical studies, including studies based on Berge’s classification theory, studies of humor from the cross-cultural perspective, studies of stand-up comedy from the cross-cultural perspective and studies of Wong’s stand-up comedy. The paper ends with a summary of research gaps and questions for this study.
