On the Analysis of Untranslatability of Culture

Abstract

Translation is not merely a cross-language communication, but more of a cross-cultural communication. When translation confront with both language and cultural barriers, linguistic untranslatability and cultural untranslatability appear. This paper elaborates the relationship between language, culture and translation, and explores the causes of cultural untranslatability and its classification, thus provides some constructive advice to transform untranslatability to translatability.
